Here are some of the benefits of drinking plenty of plain water:

1) No calories since plain water has no sugar or additives, it is pure hydration. This means that you will not gain fat from drinking water like you can from soft drinks.

2) No caffeine means that can you drink water close to your bedtime without disrupting your sleep (within reason of course, you don’t want to be dashing to the toilet at 2am)

3) Reduces appetite. Studies have shown that people who drink half a pint of plain water before each meal lost more weight on average than there counter parts who did not drink before meals.

4) Aids digestion. Water is essential for avoiding constipation. It allows food to pass through the digestive system more easily and allows you to get the most nutrients from it.

5) Fewer headaches. Most headaches are actually caused by dehydration, keeping your brain topped up with plenty of fluid with help put an end to its complaining.

6) Improves skin. Drinking more water helps keep your skin hydrated which helps it to function and allow it to fight of infections. This can help reduce acne and ageing.

7) Improves mental and physical performance. Drinking enough water will help you keep sharp and strong. You don’t have to drink energy drinks to improve your performance.

8) Increases metabolism. Keeping hydrated helps your metabolism run more efficiently, this can be as much as 3%. That may not sound like much, but it’s better than nothing, and certainly better than adding to the burner with sugary drinks.

There have been plenty of scares and rumours passed around about the dangers of drinking too much water. Drinking too much water can be dangerous as it can upset the electrolyte levels in the body.
